Ozanam & Rendu Orientations

Ozanam & Rendu Orientations

Ozanam Orientation is the foundation of Vincentian formation.  Tied to a national curriculum, it provides an overview of the historical, spiritual, and practical organization of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul and the Seattle/King County District Council.

OO is led by a team of experienced Vincentians and the half-day training covers the key elements of our ministry for both new and ongoing Vincentians:

  • The Society's heritage and mission
  • How we are organized and operate internationally, nationally and locally
  • The place of core documents, the Rule and the Manual
  • Vincentian spirituality
  • The Home Visit, our core ministry
  • Causes and conditions of poverty and
  • Efforts for systemic change

Ozanam Orientation is required for new members (within your first year of service) and we welcome and encourage experienced Vincentians to attend as a refresher and in support of their new conference members. The orientation offers an opportunity to meet, learn from, and share with your fellow Vincentians.  OO is offered four times a year at different locations across the county.

Rendu Orientation complements and completes the basic orientation of new members. Seasoned Vincentians are encouraged to participate as a way of experiencing renewal in their Vincentian vocation. This formation opportunity focusses on the Spirituality of the Home Visit which includes Conference meetings. This 2.5 hour session challenges and awakens our Vincentian spirit of service to our neighbors by providing opportunities for reflection, interactive learning, and a practice that will ground our mission in the convictions and spirituality of our founders.

Like Ozanam Orientation, Rendu Orientation is required for new members (within your first year of service) and we welcome and encourage experienced Vincentians to attend as a refresher or renewal and in support of their new conference members. RO is offered four times a year at different locations across the county.

Vincentian Formation Gathering is an annual event usually held at Seattle University to which all Vincentians in Seattle/King County are invited.  Often a full-day event, it offers multiple tracks for Vincentians to grow in their spiritual foundation, the practice of their ministry, and as leaders in their conferences, parishes and community.
